CB-5101-L - Laser Translator Card
In the last few years, small, inexpensive infrared time-of-flight (TOF) laser distance sensors have appeared on the market. These devices are marketed to the ‘maker’ community – folks interested in robot or drone position sensing. These devices are great for sensing most materials, and hence make excellent loop control devices. Unlike most industrial TOF lasers, the beam is not visible (unless you have an infrared camera). For most laser-suitable loop control applications this isn’t an issue.
Our developers have made a circuit card that takes the signal from one of these TIF lasers and converts it into the signals required by our CB-5501M main board. With it, any recent model Coiltek CS-5000 or 5100 system may be converted to a laser based system. The card is designed to fit the same footprint as our CB-5101-R ultrasonic range card.
Laser systems are less picky about location over the loop than ultrasonic systems. Ultrasonic systems work best when a relatively perpendicular surface is presented. The laser isn’t affected by the target surface’s angle of presentation. However, because their beam is spot sized, detecting very narrow material can be a problem. Narrow stock may wave in and out of the detection spot.
Any CS-5000 or CS-5100 may be constructed with the CB-5101L laser card. Please designate this by adding an 'L' to the part number when ordering (e.g. CS-5000-7221L or CS-5100L).
